A repost due to a confusing midnight headline….
If all the venomous New York media has on Bernie Sanders is the vetting of a single campaign promise and a common sense stance on manufacturing, Sanders will come out of New York just fine.
The headlines and articles from the New York Daily News are quite possibly the weakest sauce brewed in years against a presidential candidate. For a media that is widely regarded as intimidating, the staff and journalists of that outfit should be ashamed. It’s as if when time for press arrived, their response to the editor was “it’s all we got boss” and they had to run with it.
To the unwavering voter, the dissection of a single campaign promise or in the case with Sanders a possible suggestion, is just another gotcha moment. But, rarely is it the ultimate decision maker for the undecided.
The Daily News and other big media attempted to give it more weight than it has in Sanders campaign, by calling it his signature issue. However, when his actual signature issue is campaign finance reform that has been thoroughly vetted by over 6 million individual contributions. Understand, willful deceit must reach somewhere.
And the Daily News did when they reached down and picked up Sandy Hook.
Insinuating that Bernie Sanders stance on manufacturers liability, is also his condonement of the tragedy at Sandy Hook is ludicrous. His position on manufacturing rights and the gun violence that occurred, are night and day in difference.
How Sanders stands on gun violence is undeniable. In his own words “I will take the following concrete steps to reduce gun violence: strengthen and better enforce the instant background check system; close the gun-show loophole; make ‘straw man’ purchases a federal crime; ban semi-automatic assault weapons which are designed strictly for killing human beings; and work to fix our broken mental health system.”*
Bernie Sanders is against gun violence and in favor of reform that is clear. However, what he is not in favor of is potential court rulings that could hinder manufacturing jobs across the country. Given his lifetime support of working class people, his conclusion on this matter is predictable.
Holding manufacturing companies liable for non defective products that are distributed legally and with good intent is inane. The snowball effect from a court ruling like this could spell the end of manufacturing in The United States forever. The beyond frivolous lawsuits against all types of products would clog our court system til eternity.
What Sanders is doing in this moment is exactly what his supporters applaud him for. Instead of shifting in the wind, to emotional polls. Sanders is standing up once again for the working class people, whose livelihoods and communities still depend on manufacturing.
Thanks for the reminder New York Daily News. Bernie Sanders is still the man.
